Ankara Ethnography Museum

Ankara Natural History Museum

The Turkish Natural History Museum was founded in 1968 by the Institute of Mineral Research in Ankara. Exhibition halls of the Natural History Museum display 5000 important and valuable samples, gathered from Turkey and the rest of the world. With the studies on earth sciences at every corner of Turkey large amounts of samples including fossils and minerals have been collected in the museum. And also numerous fossils and minerals were given as a present from the universities and institutions. All these specimens were the first members of the collection of the museum. Some of the Museum exhibits are donations and bear the names of the donating individual or organization.

Ankara State Art and Sculpture Museum

The State Art and Sculpture Museum is a museum dedicated to fine arts and sculpture in Ankara, Turkey. It was designed in 1927 by architect Arif Hikmet Koyunoğlu and built between 1927 and 1930 as the Türkocağı Building, upon the direction of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder and first President of Turkey. It is located close to the Ethnography Museum and houses a rich collection of Turkish art from the late 19th century to the present day. Its impressive collection of contemporary art has made it one of the cornerstones of culture in Ankara. There are also galleries for guest exhibitions.

Ataturk Mausoleum (Anitkabir)

Located strategically on a prominent hill called the Observation Hill in Ankara, the site was chosen because it could be seen from the entire city. Also known as AnitKabir, this is the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk - the founder of the Turkish republic and the first president of Turkey. The architect for this structure was chosen from an international competition hosting 48 countries and is worth the hype. There are four main parts to Anıtkabir: the Road of Lions, the Ceremonial Plaza, the Hall of Honor (location of Atatürk's tomb) and the Peace Park that surrounds the monument. And as you climb the monumental staircase to enter, note the inscriptions in gold on either side, excerpts from Atatürk‘s speech given on the 10th anniversary (1932) of the republic’s proclamation.
